Dark Age of Camelot - Expansion: Darkness Rising
Release Date: Winter 2005
Article written by Blayden Thompson

Darkness Rising is for all you players who have level 50 characters and are looking for the next and game experience. This expansion will reward the end game character by providing a new storyline. The King of your realm is in danger from the evils of Darkness Falls. Each high level champion in the game is being summoned by the king to protect the realm and come to his aid. You will be sent on story driven quests to engage in PVE tasks. Your reward will be new champion weapons that have a life of their own. Imagine being in battle and your weapon gets "angry." I got to see an "angry" weapon and let me tell you "it's SWEET!"

I was also very impressed by the ability to unlock new champion levels and add armor to your horse and even show your guilds emblem. The new horse models looked very nice and the armor adds a lot to the cool factor.

There will not be any new classes in this expansion. The champion levels will have a little less impact on your character than the master levels did, however, if you are looking for a chance to enhance your character, personalize and tweak your abilities, this expansion is the proverbial icing on the cake. Imagine a warrior choosing a low level healing spell. This won't eliminate or hurt the healer class, but when soloing you might just be able to stay alive and win that neck to neck battle.

These skills will enhance your PVE abilities while retained balance in RVR. They will be adding three new outdoor zones. The developers told us that instead of designed new zones and trying to populate each zone with creatures and quests, they have taken a new approach and writing quests and storylines that will then drive an appropriate zone and dungeon matrix to support the story.

This is good news for anyone who has played Dark Age of Camelot (DAoC).
