Imagine what earth would be like if the Roman Empire has not fallen, but become a powerful presence among other nations. Mark Jacobs, President and CEO of Mythic Entertainment, chose the Roman Empire for this futuristic conflict. The Roman Empire is the major force fighting an elusive Mayan nation who is determined to undermine Rome’s influence. The Mayan culture is known for its brutal and ritualistic tendencies. Their drive and desire to conquer surrounding power cultures make them the perfect antithesis for this storyline. Both cultures become power structures in different parts of the world and come head to head in clash of wills and struggle for power. Even more unique is the fact that using the Mayan culture has never been incorporated into any other game.
Each character is selected by the Roman Empire to become a member of its elite force. After initial training the trainees are rewards with a short leave and rest to Viritori. However, upon arriving at their vacation destination, they find themselves being dragged into the height of the conflict in the midst of an attack. Their training is over and it's time to protect the Roman Empire.
Your character is given missions that are short and accomplishable. The games developers want you to have success in a fast paced environment in a short period of time. Every mission is based on the conflict. Some are repeatable and some are not. Your character experiences live events every tenth level and cap their experience at 100. There are over 500 Life Events that help build your characters abilities and at certain levels you choose more advanced professions.
Classes are designed to complement one another, but almost all classes will be able to solo. Each character has a base class and in time gain advanced professions. Base packages include Gunner, Trooper, Biomedic, Tech and a fifth class that has not yet been announced.
There are four content hubs, including Terra and Hades Prime. Hades Prime is a virtual junk yard. Each hub as 6 war zones for short missions and 15 engagement zones for longer missions. Groups of five and sometimes raids of 24 players gather together to take on the challenges of the area. There will be some instances areas where the group or raid party can work the area on their own with other players to challenge them.
The combat is based on your prime attributes of health and shield. The suit your wear has energy, similar to mana, and based on your class can be light, medium, or heavy. The concept of focus is used to aid your attacks. Some attacks give you focus while others require focus to use them. You build focus as you play. There is also a concept called State. Some skills require certain states to exist before that skill can be used. While playing solo, state 1 and 2 are available. When you add another person into your group state 3 becomes available and more than two people allow you use state 4. This concept is in the design stage and may change over time, but it looks like a decent reward concept for grouping and working together in teams. So, it is important to learn how to manage both energy and focus.
All you addicted crafters, don't worry. You will have plenty of weapons and gadgets to craft. Mythic is promising an integral crafting system that supports the success of the player and the game. Imperator is a skill-based game that looks to me to have to have a good variety that allows you to personalize your character they way you like to play.
So what about the cool gadgets. GUNS, BABY! BIG ASS KICKIN GUNS! There will be a wide variety of weaponry in the game. It is a futuristic SCI-FI game after all. The weapons I saw at E3 were lower end weapons, but cool just the same. Can' wait to see the end game "Boom, your dead!" guns.
